David Judah

A Life Poetic.

 
 

 

David M. Oliver aka Judah 1, began writing Poetry and Song at the age of 7.

After his best friend's untimely death by suicide at the age of 16, Judah 1 has been on a mission to make sure young men know how to use The Power of Voice | The Power of Community | The Power of Faith | and The Power of Knowledge.

 

An Author of two books of Original Poetry, Founder of LionLike MindState Poetry Series and Director of LionLikeINC (501c3), Judah 1 has shared his talent, heart and knowledge by Teaching Art and Expression at every level and degree of Education, from 1st Graders to University Workshops, even behind bars and boundaries.

 

Judah has taught Spoken Word as Anger Management at Camp Glen Rocky Detention Camp for Boys in San Dimas. Judah is also an Artist/Instructor for the Prison Education Project, teaching behind bars at Chino Men's Prison, Chino Women's Prison and the California Rehabilitation Center for Men (Norco Prison). Judah taught for the ACES Program in Pomona, teaching poetry, installing and supporting Poetry and Creative Writing Clubs throughout Pomona Unified School District after school programs. He currently is an Art Consultant for the Ontario Montclair School District, teaching Poetry and hosting schoolwide assemblies to promote creative writing and to assist in expanding the range of education, (2014-Present).

 

Judah 1, has represented Los Angeles at the National Poetry Slam as an LA Slam Team Member 2005 and 2006.

He took the experience he gained to expand the artistic boundaries of his region by sending the First Poetry Slam team to represent the Inland Empire 2010 and 2011. During the Second Year of the Team, they achieved 2nd in the Nation in Group/Team Poetry Slam.

 

With a heart for community and will to be a tangible daily example, Judah 1 opened Machine Pomona Art Gallery in 2010-2014 in Downtown Pomona, providing a space for a new generation of voice for the region.
